Welfare Support Volunteer - Praxis

What You'll Do: 

We are now recruiting for volunteers to help with delivering welfare support to our group members and existing advice clients. This will involve supporting people in crisis situations, such as those at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness and destitution. The purpose of the role is to provide support in key areas outside of immigration advice such as advice with housing, benefits, education, family, hardship, education and employment support.

Tasks will include: 

 

  • Signposting and referring to relevant services
  • Researching specific support services
  • Issuing foodbank vouchers, completing emergency grant requests, and applying for external grants for clients
  • Supporting with form filling, and communication with different agencies such as the DWP, local authorities, other charities or advice services
  • Detailed recording of information gathered, and actions taken
  • Using spreadsheets, client record management systems and completing forms

  • Ability to speak and write effectively in English
  • Excellent listening and communication skills
  • Creativity and reliability
  • Awareness of the challenges facing migrant communities and a commitment to Praxis’ core values of solidarity, inclusiveness, respect, and justice.
  • Ability to speak a community language is desirable but not essential
  • Alignment with Praxis’ values

 

 

We are looking for individuals who are reliable and are able to commit to a session every week for 6 months. The sessions will take place at our office on Pott Street in Bethnal Green. Ongoing supervision, support and in-house training will be provided.
