Community Panel Members (LBWF)

What You'll Do: 

Waltham Forest Youth Justice Team is recruiting for volunteers from the local area to work as Community Panel Members with young people who have been sentenced to a Referral Order by the Courts. We are specifically looking for people who either work or live in Waltham Forest and who are representative of our local communities.

When a child pleads guilty to committing their first offence, a Referral Order Panel meeting takes place which is lead by two trained community panel members.

Could you:
• Initiate a discussion with the child (and their parents or carers and the victims if appropriate) to explore what happened during the offence and hear about its impact?
• Consider what anyone in the meeting might need going forward?
• Work with the child and their families to produce a contract to help them progress and give back to the community.

What We're Looking For: 

An ability to support young people who would have come into contact with the criminal justice system in formulating a plan that will help them avoid reoffending.
