Maths or English GCSE Tutor

What You'll Do:

The People's Classroom is a grassroots education charity originally established by UCL students and staff. We are currently recruiting tutors to deliver our specialist 12-week GCSE programme at local secondary schools. Students on our programmes are from high-deprivation communities (includes free school meals, refugees and forced migrant students).

As a tutor, you will:

  • Lead 10 weekly tuition sessions for your assigned tutee at partner school sites. You will also work collaboratively with fellow tutors to run group tuition sessions.
  • Guide students through a campus tour of the university and lead a presentation masterclass at UCL.
  • Attend a graduation ceremony hosted at a corporate partner office in Central London.
Why You'll Love It:
  • Be part of a dedicated team, working collaboratively with fellow tutors to lead interactive, practical and engaging workshops.
  • Support your tutee to build their confidence, communication and leadership skills.
  • Provide 1:1 teaching support for students who are falling behind in school.
  • Have the opportunity to apply your subject knowledge and relational skills in a practical setting.

What You'll Learn:
  • Gain confidence and communication while tutoring a Year 11 student.
  • Build leadership and team-building skills while collaborating with a team of tutors
  • Planning and organisation
  • Develop key soft skills (emotional intelligence, communication and problem-solving)
  • Attend a graduation ceremony at a corporate partner HQ where you will be awarded a certificate

What We're Looking For:
  • Dedicated tutors who share our commitment to educational equality
  • Tutors who can provide mentorship/guidance to students
  • Attend after-school tuition workshops (1 hour a week)
  • Tutod who can lead 1:1 and small-scale tuition workshops for students.
  • Tutors who can support Year 11 GCSE students in Maths or English
