The People's Classroom
To provide young people with the tools and resources they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
ABOUT US:

Established by UCL students and staff to support 'disadvantaged' students at local secondary schools.

Our flagship GCSE programme provides free tuition for students who are currently falling behind. Programme participants are from underrepresented backgrounds within higher education and currently falling behind in Maths and English.

Programme tutors are recruited from key London universities to lead small-scale workshops which cover topics programme participants need to catch up on. We champion a collaborative approach by working with students to redefine their identity in school.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

We believe that every student should have access to the tools and resources required to reach their full academic potential. Resarch shows that students from marginalised backgrounds have lower attainment outcomes when compared to their peers. Achieving a Grade 5 in both Maths and English GCSE increases a student's likelihood of attending university and even have higher lifetime earnings.

The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) identifies small-scale and targetted tutoring as an effective strategy to improve attainment outcomes, however students from disadvantaged backgrounds don't always have the resources to access this.

This is why we are committed to delivering free tuition support for students need it most and are at risk underachieving (attaining below a grade 5 in Maths or English).

OUR VALUES:
Equality
Justice
Social Mobility
Inclusion
Empowerment
Growth
THINGS WE ARE PROUD OF:
We are a student led initiative, established by individuals who have come from marginalised backgrounds and have faced challenges within the education system first-hand. We have designed a robust programme and established strong relationships with students and schools to deliver meaningful impact and work with students to create learning environments where all students have the opportunity to thrive.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN OUR PEOPLE:

-Commitment to educational equality

-Passion for Maths and teaching GCSE students

-Team player who is keen to work collaboratively with others

-Strong communication skills

HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT:

Our programme champions a collaborative model, that focuses on building partnerships with students. Tutors work with students to co-produce learning resources and build confidence by co-presenting academic workshops.

We have provided tutors with the opportunity to support young people, but also critically to gain key skills and mentorship through our Financial Literacy Summer School, where you will have the opportunity to collaborate with experts from the finance sector to co-produce accessible learning materials on topics such as budgeting and cryptocurrency.
