Volunteers are the life and soul of all we do at City Harvest!
They are the packers, the stackers, the sorters, and the porters; and we couldn’t do it without all the help from amazing people like you!
By volunteering with us, you will have the chance to make a direct positive impact on thousands of vulnerable people in London who face obstacles that include food poverty, social segregation, homelessness, domestic abuse or debilitating illnesses.
Role Details:
Every volunteering experience with City Harvest is different, as roles assigned will depend on the time of day and where the need is greatest.
The two typical roles we offer to our volunteers are as a ‘warehouse assistant’ or a ‘driver’s assistant’. All volunteers are primarily warehouse assistants; however, when there is need, we do ask our warehouse volunteers if they would like to go out with a driver on the day as a driver’s assistant.
WAREHOUSE ASSISTANT
Our warehouse volunteers are crucial to keeping the vans rolling and to making sure food is ready to go out to feed London! You could be unloading deliveries, checking and sorting food, creating mixed meal boxes for the homeless, or carrying out other warehouse tasks to help in the day-to-day running of City Harvest. The opportunities are endless!
DRIVER’S ASSISTANT
While you are volunteering with us as a warehouse assistant, there may be the opportunity to join one of our drivers on their route, helping to collect donations and deliver to our many charity recipients across London. Each driver can be accompanied along their route by up to two volunteers. Volunteers team up with our drivers where possible, helping optimise our deliveries, building relationships with our food donors and the charities we serve, and providing vital hands-on support for our work.
Commitment:
Open 7 days a week in Acton and 4 mornings a week in Leyton, we offer a flexible slot-booking system on our online volunteer platform, called Time Counts, so our volunteers can join us according to their personal availability. You can commit as much or as little time as you like, the main thing is the huge impact you make with even one visit to our warehouse!
