ESOL Study Club Volunteers Needed at Refugee Education UK

What You'll Do:

As a Study Club Volunteer, you will help facilitate weekly English and Maths sessions for young people aged 14–25 who are affected by displacement. Your role will include supporting homework, leading small group learning, and encouraging conversation practice. You will also help plan session activities, games, or discussion topics alongside other volunteers and the Mentoring Coordinator. During sessions, you will support learners’ confidence, participation, and positive engagement. Volunteers are responsible for completing weekly feedback forms and attending meetings when required. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people is a key part of the role.

Why You'll Love It:

You will love this role because it gives you the chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young refugees and asylum seekers. The Study Club is designed to be informal and enjoyable, making volunteering feel rewarding rather than pressured. You will work as part of a supportive volunteer team, with guidance from the Mentoring Coordinator. Seeing young people grow in confidence, skills, and independence can be incredibly motivating. The role is flexible, with a small weekly time commitment. It’s also a great opportunity to be part of an organisation that values inclusion, equality, and wellbeing.

What You'll Learn:

Through this role, you will develop practical experience supporting young people with English, Maths, and general study skills. You’ll learn how to plan and deliver engaging learning activities in a group setting. The role also helps build skills in communication, problem-solving, and creative thinking. You’ll gain experience working with young people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. Training and safeguarding guidance will strengthen your understanding of child protection and youth work. Overall, this role offers valuable experience for anyone interested in education, mentoring, or community work.

What We're Looking For:

We’re looking for volunteers who are confident supporting English or Maths at school or college level and who are motivated to work with young people. Experience in teaching, tutoring, or group facilitation is preferred, but you do not need to be a qualified teacher. Volunteers should be patient, flexible, and able to think creatively when supporting learning. Strong communication and organisational skills are important for working effectively with young people and the volunteer team. We value people who are committed to safeguarding and promoting young people’s wellbeing. Refugee Education UK welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds, including those with lived experience of forced migration.
