Carers Service Volunteer

What You'll Do:

The service offers free respite for unpaid family carers in the community, where a volunteer will sit with the patient for a few hours providing companionship, while their carer has a break. Our volunteers also provide emotional support for unpaid carers, helping to reduce isolation.

St Joseph’s celebrates the diversity of its local communities and actively welcomes applications from volunteers who reflect this diversity, as well as those who speak locally-spoken languages. Currently we have demand for Sylheti and Spanish speaking volunteers.

While not essential for the role, we are also particularly interested in hearing from people who have personally experienced caring for a loved one.

Why You'll Love It:

• Make a difference to the lives of patients and carers of St Joseph’s Hospice.
• Reimbursement of travel and phone expenses incurred in relation to your volunteer work

What You'll Learn:

• On-going supervision and support.
• A commitment to continued development of your volunteering role.
• Provision of a reference after 6 months active volunteering.

What We're Looking For:
  • Aged 18+
  • Empathetic and compassionate, with excellent communication skills.
  • Complete an interview and relevant criminal record check.
  • Complete two days of training.
  • Be willing to commit to a maximum of up to 4 hours a week for at least 6 months.
  • Attend monthly group supervision for 1 hour.
