Claremont Project is a community arts and wellbeing charity delivering a wide range of arts and wellbeing activities to Islington residents aged 55+ . We are free to join and provide low-cost classes, particularly focused on engaging those who are isolated and lonely. We have a referral route into the project through our social prescription pathway and operate a low cost psycotherapy service for Islington residents aged 18+, which is a training placement for trainee therapists. Housed within a refurbished large building in the heart of Angel, Islington, the charity also generates vital income through lettings and the hiring of rooms and halls, contributing to a busy and active community centre. Central to our work is the Relational approach and this informs the style and delivery of all our services.
At Claremont, it is important that people feel they matter. This might be from remembering someone’s name and greeting them with eye contact, all the way to taking time and effort to get to know members on a deeper level. Connecting and building genuine relationships with members, particularly those who are isolated is a primary aim.
Building quality relationships with people is at the heart of our work. Quality relationships require respect, dignity, equality and a striving to see someone for all that they are, have been, and could yet become.
'Mattering is part of our lives. From baby to high schooler and beyond, we need to matter to others. We choose values and ways of behaving which places us in social groups of sharing ‘mattering’. But there are times and circumstances in our lives when many of the things which help us matter to others is challenged.’ – Claremont's CEO.
People who are empathetic, interested in fostering connections, good listeners, able to maintain confidentiality, open and approachable with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
