Screen Share UK
To ensure every refugee in the UK has access to a laptop
ABOUT US:

We're a grassroots organisation who collect, refurbish and redistribute technoloy to refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. We have grown from a bedroom project into the largest provider of tech to refugees in the UK, somehow. We've got dozens of volunteers who find, collect, refurbish and move devices through our system, as well as Comms and Advocacy volunteers who help spread our mission.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

“My name is Sam. I’m 23 years old. I arrived in the UK from Afghanistan in 2022. When the Taliban took over, we had to leave immediately. I was lucky to get out. When I was living in asylum accommodation, I found out about a charity who were helping with education. They suggested I contact the local university, who were interested in my story. The university told me that it was a bit late in the year, but they wanted me to write an essay to see if I was suitable for the course, which was Politics and International Relations. I didn’t have a working laptop, and I only had a few days until the deadline. I had nothing - no computer, no wifi. I didn't know what to do. I thought I wouldn't be able to get to University just because I didn't have access to a working computer. I was able to finish my essay just in time, and I was admitted onto the course. I love every minute of it. But what if I couldn't get access to the computer? I would have lost my chance to join University, by simply not having access to a working computer. It sounds unfair and very sad in toda’s world that by just having access to a working computer a life can be changed. While I was waiting for the course to start, I used my Screen Share laptop to do the IELTS (english language test), which I passed. I was then asked to help with getting people in my situation signed up and enrolled on benefits. This was my first time volunteering in the UK. The process was all done on my Screen Share laptop. It's amazing how one laptop can change not only my life but other people's lives too. Then I applied for the Talent Tap with my Screen Share laptop, and they nominated me to be one of the Big Issue’s changemakers. This is how one small thing has a big impact. It’s called the butterfly effect I think. Next year I will run for president of STAR (Student Action for Refugees). I am going to help other students to get laptops and refurbish laptops and access online courses. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for my Screen Share laptop. As a refugee, you helped me to get here. But now I am part of the solution. Together we can change the dynamic. Before I met you guys and went on this journey I didn’t think change was possible but now I think we can cange how people think about refugees. I am the example that it works. I have big plans now and they wouldn’t have started without you.If you had told me two years ago that this is where I would be, I wouldn’t have believed you. I would have said you’re telling me a joke. But it works. Just look.”
