St Margaret’s House (SMH) pioneers innovative ways to bring arts and wellbeing together. We celebrate all the places that community arts and wellbeing intersect, delivering our performances and programmes in non-traditional spaces in collaboration and consultation with artists, local community arts groups and local people. Our vision is to create healthier and happier communities for all, promoting positive social change by offering arts and wellbeing opportunities for local people to come together and play a more active part in their community.
SMH focuses on collaboration: we have 25 arts and wellbeing tenants based in our hub – some with a local focus (the Bangladeshi Parents & Carers Association and Grand Union Orchestra), others with a local and national remit (Fevered Sleep and Freshwater Theatre). We support the ecology of arts sector by providing our tenants some of London’s lowest rents and partnership including project collaboration, local connections, space and funding opportunities.
We’re a placed-based charity focused on improving access to quality culture across our communities and partnerships seam through our programme to deliver this. Our projects anchor us in the community, providing spaces for Tower Hamlets residents to connect, eat, shop, learn, create and enjoy a diverse cultural programme.
Our Opportunities
We host a whole range of live events across our different spaces, from our regular open mic nights to children’s shows, theatre performances, gigs and more.
