Founded in 2016, BeScience STEM is a passionate, nationwide social enterprise striving to make a difference in young people's lives and increase their understanding and access to STEM Careers. Our team works with schools and educational institutions to deliver impactful STEM experiences each year.
We are a dedicated team that offers young people active learning experiences in STEM careers, giving them the opportunity to gain knowledge and exposure that will help them make decisions about their future. At BeScience STEM, our vision is to expose 1 million young people to the STEM industry by 2025.
‘Initially I volunteered accidentally; I didn't know what I was signing up for. Library LAB is very engaging, exciting and makes you want to step out of your comfort zone and begin to fully enjoy the experience. Since my ‘accidental’ start, I've been inspired to do more STEM community outreach through BeScience STEM and to learn more about STEM subjects myself.’
Azka Naeem, Audiology, 2nd year student
‘Having Asperger's I struggled to interact socially with people, I started volunteering in the STEM Juniors programme and have made great friends on the team. I am also more confident in talking to people in social environments and it has given me the confidence to join a society at university…volunteering with BeScience STEM has been life-changing.’
Mia, 3rd Year university student
According to the Institution of Engineering and Technology, we have a shortfall of 173,000 STEM workers (10 unfilled roles per business). Not enough young people pursue STEM. Out of those who do, only 24% of graduates find a job within STEM 6 months after university (National Audit Office).
The main reasons are lack of awareness, lack of interest and lack of support to pursue STEM.
Many young people don’t learn essential employability skills in school. Teachers either don’t have the time or the knowledge to keep up with advances in STEM.
What if we could help every disadvantaged child discover their learning style and see STEM as engaging? And what if we could train STEM professionals to engage young minds?
With that belief, BeScience STEM was to help young people take control of their futures and reimagine STEM learning.
Through workshops, podcasts, events and consultations, we teach STEM professionals to develop young people in creative and engaging ways. We use creative methods and lived experience to excite young people about STEM. And we involve their teachers and families because it takes a village to raise a STEM professional.
