London Canal Museum
Our object is the education of the public in the history of the canals, and in particular those of London. We aim to become one of the leading regional canal museums of the UK and will inspire enthusiasm for and interest in the waterways and the ice trade.
ABOUT US:

Come and explore the history of London’s Canals and discover the fascination history of the Victorian Ice Trade.

See inside a narrowboat cabin, learn about the history of London's canals, about the cargoes carried, the people who lived and worked on the waterways, and the horses that pulled their boats. Peer down into the huge Victorian ice well that was used to store ice imported from Norway and brought here by ship and canal boat.

This unique waterways heritage museum is housed in a former ice warehouse built in about 1862-3 for Carlo Gatti, the famous ice cream maker, and features the history of the ice trade and ice cream as well as the canals.

WHY OUR WORK MATTERS:

Our museum keeps the history of the waterways in London, and those that lived and worked on the canals alive and relevant.
