Community Digital Support Volunteer

What You'll Do:

As a volunteer, you’ll help members of the community with digital skills, supporting them with everyday technology use. This could include:

· Helping beginners get comfortable with computers

· Assisting with basic IT tasks like browsing the internet and sending emails

· Supporting people with using their phones, laptops, or iPads

Our programme is designed for those at risk of digital exclusion, so no specialist IT background is needed—just patience, a friendly approach, and a willingness to help.

We welcome a diverse range of participants, some of whom may face additional barriers to learning, such as mental health challenges. Your role will be to provide support, encouragement, and create a safe, welcoming space where they can build confidence in their digital skills.

Sessions take place weekly at St Luke’s Community Centre, from 1:45 – 3:15pm.

Why You'll Love It:
  • Make a real impact – Help bridge the digital divide and empower people to stay connected in an increasingly online world.
  • Share your knowledge – Use your skills to teach and mentor others, helping them build confidence with technology.
  • Build meaningful connections – Engage with a diverse range of people, hearing their stories and supporting them in a truly hands-on way.
  • Develop valuable skills – Strengthen your communication, teaching, and mentoring abilities—great for both personal growth and your CV.
  • Be part of a supportive community – Join a friendly team of volunteers and staff who are passionate about making a difference.
  • A rewarding experience – See firsthand the confidence and independence people gain through your support.
What You'll Learn:
  • How to communicate effectively – Adapt your approach to support people with different backgrounds, needs, and confidence levels.
  • How to provide a safe and welcoming space – Develop the skills to create an inclusive, encouraging learning environment.
  • Teaching and mentoring skills – Learn how to break down complex topics into simple, accessible steps.
  • Problem-solving in real time – Gain experience in troubleshooting digital challenges and guiding people to solutions.
  • Patience and empathy – Strengthen your ability to support learners at their own pace, making a real difference in their confidence
What We're Looking For:

We’re looking for friendly and patient volunteers who are passionate about helping others. You don’t need an IT background—just a willingness to support people in building their confidence with technology.

Ideally, you’ll have:

· Good communication skills – The ability to explain things simply and clearly.

· Patience and empathy – A supportive approach to helping people learn at their own pace.

· An interest in teaching or mentoring – Whether formal or informal, experience in guiding others is a plus.

· A problem-solving mindset – Willingness to troubleshoot and adapt to different learning needs.

· A friendly and approachable attitude – Creating a welcoming space is key!

No specialist knowledge is required—just an enthusiasm for making a difference and a desire to help others gain confidence with digital skills.
