Outreach Lead

What You'll Do:

Babylon Migrants Project is a Community Interest Company which runs creative activities by and for young people from refugee, asylum seeking and migrant backgrounds. We are based in London, but making plans for a new regional hub. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced volunteer to help us maintain and build our community of participants, and develop our wider network. The outreach lead will be part of the leadership team of Babylon Migrants Project, which is currently mainly volunteer-led.

Key responsibilities:

1. Targeting referrers: proactively seek out and maintain relationships with organisations within the refugee and youth sectors, to promote Babylon Migrants Project's programmes and initiatives and gain referrals.

2. Community engagement: act as a liaison between Babylon Migrants Project and community groups in London, including schools, NGOs, youth clubs, local authorities, hotels, and other relevant organisations.

3. Signposting: research and maintain a database of speciality organisations and services to which we can refer Babylon Migrants Project participants in need (e.g. for mental health support, housing support and similar)

4. Community Events: attend community and sector-wide events to raise awareness about Babylon Migrants Project's mission and gain referrals

5. Organisational decision-making: Attend monthly core team meetings and take an active role in the Babylon Migrants Project leadership team

Why You'll Love It:

Babylon Migrants Project offers flexible volunteering, a warm cross-cultural community, and lots of different ways to get involved and learn new skills.

You'll also be making a massive difference to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in a very challenging time.

Your input will help us to ensure that our work can reach participants in need. We know how isolating it can be to be new to the UK, particularly for those waiting for an asylum decision. We want to make sure that young people with refugee, asylum seeking and migrant backgrounds in London know about our work, and know how to get involved.

Outreach is also vital for our profile as an organisation, and we are keen to make sure that community groups, schools, NGOs, youth clubs, and local authorities know about our work, and know to refer participants to us.

What You'll Learn:

- Communication skills for working with people from differnet backgrounds, with different levels of English

- Organisational management experience from sitting on the core team of volunteers

- How to build a network within the refugee and humanitarian sector

What We're Looking For:

Essential:

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Some experience of working within the youth and refugee sectors
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Understanding of the issues facing refugees, asylum seekers and migrants
  • Understanding of GDPR
  • Commitment to the values of Babylon Migrants Project
