The purpose of the role is to assist in the day to day running of our charity shop(s) to maximise sales and profitability.
Core responsibilities
•To greet, assist and serve customers, providing a service of the highest standard, as well as being polite and courteous.
•To assist with processing stock, including sorting, steaming, pricing, hanging of donated items and the effective display of items presented for sale.
•To be involved with the till operation and the handling of cash (although this is not a necessary requirement.
•Help keep the shop looking clean and tidy.
•Dust the bric a brac and clean the shelves.
Shops are open from Monday - Saturday 9am - 5pm. We have a range of shifts available so please get in touch for more information. Usually volunteers do one shift per week of 3 hours and upwards.
Being part of a friendly team with plenty of tea, coffee and treats on offer. No day is the same as you are never sure what you will get donated or what customers you will meet. Our shops have a community feel to them, so many of our volunteers get to know the regulars who come in for a chat as well as as shopping.
You will learn many retail skills such as merchandising, till work, window displays, pricing, steaming, customer service, gift aid, finance skills etc. You will also improve team working and communication through the everyday activities. You will also get to understand the workings of the shop behind the scenes.
We are looking for friendly motivated people who enjoy working with the public and are happy to help out.
