Cyber Champions

What You'll Do:

•The Cyber Champions project involves University students (‘Cyber Champions’) presenting 1-hour workshops to school children on cyber safety during the school day once or twice a term.

•Volunteers will have a training session to introduce them to the workshop script and will also be provided with top tips for facilitating the workshop sessions.

•Volunteers do not require a DBS check, but they must always deliver the workshops with a teacher present and always with at least one other volunteer.

•Due to the level of support provided to volunteers and the baseline level of messaging, no knowledge of IT or Cyber is required, only an interest in keeping children safe online!

Why You'll Love It:
  • Volunteers often learn something new themselves when learning the Cyber Champions script, increasing their knowledge of digital skills, which will be beneficial both personally and professionally.
  • Cyber Champions volunteers practise key skills during the project that can be added to CVs such as organisational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work with other people. Many prospective employers also look for presentation skills and the Cyber Champions project allows volunteers to develop presentation techniques and gain confidence when presenting to an audience.
  • The project is a good opportunity to meet people from different courses and year groups and there may be an opportunity to present workshops with graduates in industry and build up a professional network.
  • Volunteers can help to make a positive difference to the ways school children approach being digitally smart whilst being associated with a national not-for-profit organisation.
  • It is a rewarding and really fun experience!
