Shout Volunteer

What You'll Do: 

You'll apply a five stage conversation model and bring a non-judgemental attitude to give people a safe space to be heard and understood. Using your knowledge skills for assessing and managing suicide and safeguarding risk, you'll work with your Supervisor to keep people safe whilst empowering them to identify how they can achieve their goal for the chat.

What You'll Learn: 
  • Communication techniques to quickly build rapport over text with strangers
  • A five stage conversation model created to support people from a hot momen to a cool calm 
  • Risk assessment and management for suicide, self-harm and safeguarding risks
  • Adaptability to the individuality of each texter and conversation
  • Collaboration with your Clinical Supervisor on shift to deliver quality support and respond to risk
  • How to embrace the Growth Mindset to continually further your knowledge and skills
What We're Looking For: 
  • Be over 18.
  • Be resilient and mentally robust to help people in distress.
  • Commit to 25 hours of online training and then fulfil 200 total hours of volunteering.
  • Have empathy and be able to be objective.
  • Put your own personal views to one side to help the texter.
  • Have a secure web connection, laptop/computer and access to a quiet place.
  • Only volunteer from the UK or New Zealand and have a phone number for one of these countries. 
  • Provide 2 referees and consent to undergo a background check.
