Support disabled children & young people in their dance sessions

What You'll Do:

Do you want to make a difference with dance?

Are you looking for experience in the community arts sector?

icandance is a London-based charity that empowers disabled children and young people through dance and performance.

We hold weekly dance sessions in Hampstead London, where disabled children and young people develop their creativity, learning and wellbeing through dance. We are looking for volunteers to support these sessions.

As a volunteer, you will be assigned a specific child and you will work and dance with them each week, providing 1-1 support, throughout the dance sessions. Volunteers are a core part of our charity as they enable our dancers to fulfil their potential.

Volunteering hours available are as follows:

Thursdays 5:45-8:30pm in Hampstead

Saturdays 9:30-2:30pm in Hampstead and West Hampstead

There is some flexibility in volunteering hours, so do contact us to discuss.

If interested, please apply here: https://forms.office.com/r/h0Qfc7mtT4

And send your CV to info@icandance.org.uk

Why You'll Love It:

Volunteering with icandance is a joyful and deeply rewarding experience. Each week, you’ll build a meaningful connection with a young dancer, helping them express themselves through movement and creativity. You’ll be part of a vibrant, inclusive community where your support makes a real difference, not just in the lives of the children, but in your own growth and understanding. As a volunteer, you will have:

  • A dedicated mentor to support you on your journey
  • Termly check-ins and supervision to ensure you feel supported
  • Specialist trainings in disability, SEN and the icandance approach
  • Opportunities to grow and develop in your skills
What You'll Learn:

  • Gain hands-on experience in adapting dance and movement to meet the needs of disabled children and young people.
  • Learn how to build trust and provide consistent, compassionate support to a young dancer each week.
  • Develop deeper communication skills, essential for working with diverse needs.
  • Explore ways to encourage creativity and self-expression through movement and performance.
  • Work alongside experienced dance therapists, specialist SEN professionals, and other volunteers in a supportive and inspiring environment.
  • Build awareness and understanding of disability, inclusion, and the power of the arts to transform lives.
  • Grow your confidence in leading and supporting others in a creative setting.
What We're Looking For:

Volunteers should be comfortable to support children and young people using dance and movement. Having experience in SEN or creative therapies is preferred, but not necessary. Overall, volunteers should show a commitment to inclusion and providing positive support to young people with disabilities and their families.

All applicants are required to undergo a DBS check. This will be arranged by icandance.
