Champions Homework Club Volunteer

What You'll Do:

Champions Club aims to improve and champion the academic performance of the children that Solidarity Sports serves, typically from disadvantaged backgrounds, by supporting their aspirations and unlocking their potential. Through mentoring, tutoring, and consistent guidance, volunteers can play a pivotal role in providing these children with an equitable chance to excel not only in their school studies but also in their broader educational journeys. By signing up, you can make a meaningful impact in empowering young learners to reach their academic goals and build a brighter future.

As a volunteer, you will be supporting our children at Champion Club after school during term time every Tuesday 3:15-5:30pm, helping children with ongoing learning and homework. Each session, lasting between 1 and 1.5 hours, will be delivered once a week to individual students. As the programme progresses, additional days may be introduced to provide further support based on the children's needs.

Sessions will be divided into three segments, alternating between play and learning, ensuring a balance of fun and education. Volunteers will guide children through activities tailored to their academic needs, focusing on literacy or numeracy, while creating an engaging and supportive environment for their development.

All volunteers will be DBS checked before volunteering.

Commitment:

Champions Homework Club runs every Tuesday during children's school terms.

We ask our volunteers to commit to at least one term (6 weeks). This allows the children to get to know their tutors and build strong relationships throughout the learning process.

Enthusiasm for Learning: A passion for helping children reach their full potential in a fun and engaging way.

Why You'll Love It:

While volunteering with Solidarity Sports you will develop many skills, whilst being a friendly and helpful support to our children. Through volunteering with us you will gain leadership, communication and problem-solving skills. Many of our volunteers tell us their own confidence and mental wellbeing has improved by joining us. Finally, by volunteering you will meet like-minded people and build friendships with others in the community.

What You'll Learn:

You will gain hands-on experience by applying key pedagogical and psychological theories to real-world situations, and develop a better understanding of how they influence children's cognitive and academic development. You will also learn to be empathetic and sensitive in supporting our children, who have experienced significant adversity.

What We're Looking For:

You MUST have a passion for working with children. Our children have been through a lot in their short lives; it is vital we listen and give them a safe and fun space to express themselves. We want to create a happy, loving environment for them.
