Each Christmas, Crisis mobilise a unique volunteering effort to provide warmth, companionship and vital services to people facing homelessness and housing insecurity.
There are volunteer roles across London and other cities that you can get involved in during the City St George's Christmas closure. We've put together our guide of roles available in each city, and what skills and experiences you can bring to help make the Christmas period one of warmth and companionship for all.
London
Advice volunteers - providing basic signposting and triaging guests into support services
Driver volunteers - supporting the driving needs of the location, such as transporting guests and volunteers
Digital and IT volunteers - setting up hardware and networking, and supporting with troubleshooting
Guest welfare volunteers - for qualified mental health professionals, counsellors or psychotherapists to support the more vulnerable guests
Hotel assistant volunteers - suppporting guests staying in the hotels on arrival and during their stay
Mental health advice volunteers - for those registered with the HCPC, supporting staff and volunteers with your understanding of mental health
Nursing volunteers - for registered nurses and midwives to support those with a variety of nursing skills
Performer volunteers - bring festive joy through a fun and accessible performance of your choosing
Optical assistant volunteers - supporting the vision care of guests (must have some clinic experience)
Resources volunteers - ensure stock levels are maintained and stored safely
Set up and maintenance volunteers - setting up and shutting down the centres, and supporting with basic repairs
Wellbeing volunteers - deivering yoga, pilates or mediation activities to small groups

Using your staff volunteering leave
Although the vast majority of roles take place during the Christmas closure, if there happen to be shifts on Monday 23rd December you can use one of your annual Volunteer Leave days to take the day to volunteer. To find out more about using your staff volunteering leave, head to the StaffHub.
