Description

Do you believe in a world with zero food waste? Do you want to help fight food poverty? Then join the surplus food revolution and become a Zero Food Waste Hero with Plan Zheroes at the Real Food Market in King's Cross.

Following on the success of our first market surplus food collection at London's iconic Borough Market which has saved over 50 tonnes of amazing food since June 2014 (the equivalent of 100,000 meals for people in need), we're now teaming up with the Real Food Market in King's Cross to save even more great food from being wasted.

The collection runs every Thursday and Friday evening, just as the market wraps up at 7pm. Our team of amazing volunteers visit traders and gather the amazing surplus fruit & veg, bread and other products. The food is brought to Plan Zheroes’ table where it is weighed and local charities then come to collect.

We are looking for volunteers who are available from 7-7:30 on a Thursday or Friday evening once or twice a month (or more if you're keen!) or just whenever you can. We have a rota we'll circulate each month and you simply enter any dates where you'd like to help out.

This role requires someone with energy and enthusiasm to navigate the market, do a bit of lifting (although nothing too strenuous!) and to check, sort and record the food donated.

We also need volunteers to be dedicated and reliable. We understand that plans change, so just ask that if you're unable to make a shift you ensure you swap this with another volunteer in enough time that the collection can still go ahead.

We are unable to offer reimbursement for travel to/from the market for this project.
