Description

What you will be doing:

•Providing support to the families of individuals imprisoned, on trial or in the process of being sentenced
•Research and provide information concerning the judicial, prison and state benefit systems, relevant to the women (with help from the Befriending Service Manger)
•Research and signpost to other local agencies relevant to the woman’s needs
•Offer support in identifying and achieving goals and aspirations
•Act as an advocate for the woman in her dealings with official bodies and support her in becoming a more effective self-advocate
•Report to Befriending Service Manager on the progress of the befriending relationship

What we are looking for:
•Regular commitment and reliability
•A willingness to provide empathetic, non-judgemental support to a family / family member
•Ability to work alone
•Willingness to learn and follow Pact policies and procedures
•Attendance at training sessions and regular supervisions with the project coordinator

Time commitment:
This role can be carried out at any mutually agreed time convenient with yourself and the befriendee you will be supporting. A minimum commitment of 6 hours per month, for a period of 1 year is expected.
