Location War Child UK Office Studio 320 Highgate Studios Highgate Road London NW5 1TL All interviews and inductions will be at this address. Volunteering opportunities are normally across London (travel within London covered), anything further than London transport will be provided.
Description

Our Youth Advocates are a small panel of young people, with conflict-affected backgrounds, who are interested in trying to make a positive change for children affected by conflict around the world. The objectives of the group are:
• To help raise awareness of issues affecting children in current and post conflict societies with the public, decision makers and the media.
• To support War Child UK in influencing change in policies and opinions relating to children and young people affected by conflict

There are wide variety of what you could be involved in- and the types of advocacy opportunities will vary - but it will always be up to you to say what you feel you can or can’t contribute. In the past members have done things like joined policy discussions, given presentations, been interviewed for TV, radio and newspapers, come along to events in the Houses of Parliament, at Global Summits and War Child UK’s own music gigs.

This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

Training will be provided by the organisation for this position:

Everyone has a full day induction to learn more about War Child. The day includes basic media training, being interviewed, blog writing and campaigning.
Before each opportunity, the young person will receive 1-2-1 briefings and support.

About you

The organisation has indicated the following requirements from volunteers who want to take this opportunity.

Essential: Be aged between 18-26, have first hand expereince of living in a place affected by war, live in Greater London.

Desirable: Have an interest in children’s rights, humanitarian issues and making a difference.
