Hours per week 2 hours
Location A sheltered scheme in Islington
Description

Are you into health, fitness and rehabilitation? Why not lead Gentle Exercise sessions for our Older People, living in sheltered housing accommodation?

Tim commitment would be a minimum of 2 hours per week, during normal office hours between Monday to Friday.
We hope the volunteer will stay for a minimum of 4 months.

Activities can include:
-Listening to and planning with service users, exercises which they wish to do.
- Focussing more on improving mobility of joints, rather than fitness or stamina
- Leading gentle armchair exercises
Playing team spirited games like darts and bowls.

Some of the people you meet may have mobility issues. This is how we support volunteers:

- Through provision of a thorough induction with access to any relevant in-house and external training
- Volunteers have a named supervisor providing day-to-day support and encouragement
- Reasonable travel and lunch expenses are reimbursed
- We can help you obtain a valid First Aid certificate, if you do not already have one. First Aid certificates last for 3 years, whilst the CPR component is valid for 1 year.

This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

  • Interpersonal/Confidence
  • Problem solving/Creativity
  • Planning/Organising
  • Leadership/Management

Training will be provided by the organisation for this position:

There is training in Safeguarding Adults at Risk, Personal Safety and Introduction To Boundaries. Additionally, Mental Health Awareness, Being Resilient, and other courses are available to equip all volunteers, led by our in-house trainer.
