Location The Volunteering opportunity takes place across 5 different hospital sites. You can choose which site is most suitable for you. You will need to travel to the hospital via public transport and your travel expenses will be reimbursed but must be agreed in advance. 1. Mile End Hospital, Bancroft Road, London, E1 4DG 2. Description

We are looking for Eye Clinic Support Service Volunteers to provide emotional and practical support to patients attending the eye clinics at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust satellite sites.

You will be supporting patients who have recently been diagnosed with a visual impairment and/or are receiving treatment - from offering a listening ear over a cup of tea, giving out non-medical information, to signposting them to
available services.

What you need to know:
Volunteers will need to be aged 18 +.
You will be able to commit to a half day session (am or pm) once a week for a minimum of six months.
No prior experience of supporting people with sight loss is required.


This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

  • Planning/Organising

Training will be provided by the organisation for this position:

You will receive 1 full day training covering professional boundaries, safeguarding, vision awareness and sighted guide as well as emotional support. You will also receive an induction on your first day at the hospital.
