Description

Are you interested in influencing public policy and would like to be part of a leading refugee charity?

The Afghanistan & Central Asian Association is looking for a volunteer with a keen interest in public policy and influencing to provide support with a major piece of policy work being conducted. The project will investigate the local support relied on by the Afghan diaspora and refugee communities in the UK and the current need for charity services.

This would be an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for helping refugees and asylum seekers to gain valuable experience in a high-profile team working to influence local and national government at different levels.

The tasks involved in this role include:

o Assisting the Policy Officer and other members of the ACAA team to produce a report covering local support used by the Afghan diaspora in the UK, including:
o Desktop research and reviewing existing literature
o Helping to arrange interviews with service providers
o Writing up interview transcripts
o Collating and analysing responses from Freedom of Information requests and other data
o Drafting summaries of analysis, briefings and early versions of sections of the report
o Supporting the Policy Team with other ad-hoc projects and administrative tasks

For the role to be valuable, both for the volunteer and the project, we would suggest between 10–20 hours a week. However, we are flexible over the specific days and hours, and the start date.

Essential: Good IT skills; organised & reliable; excellent analytical skills and writing skills; strong interest in policy and issues of refugees

Desirable: Experience or understanding of local government, welfare policy or crisis support services in the government or voluntary sector
