Archive Researcher Volunteer at Newham NDP

We are seeking volunteers to assist in the research aspects of Discovering Stratford Village Heritage Project

Dates 7 May 2017 - 31 Dec 2017 (54 hours)
Location Newham New Deal Partnership (Newham NDP) St. Luke's Community Centre 89 Tarling Road London, E16 1HN Closest station: Canning Town Station, 10 min walk. Buses 147 and 241 stop at Keir Hardie Estate across the road from the St. Lukes Community Centre.

Have you ever wondered about, or researched the history of a street? We are seeking volunteers to assist in the research aspects of the project, which will culminate in a public talks and guided walks programme, a website and a walks app. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the 'Discovering Stratford Village 1890-1990: Working Lives, Working Community' heritage project, and to help encourage local communities to engage with the history of their local area.

Key duties and responsibilities:
Commitment to attend Archive Research Training;
Visit local archives, museums and libraries to gather information about the history and heritage of Stratford Village in the last 100 years;
Working on a variety of different sources including original records, photographs, newspapers and secondary sources;
Identify images, documents and other archival records which can be used in the walks app, website etc.;
Attend regular monthly meetings to share your research and maintain regular contact with the project team;
Research for the project’s events programme and outcomes will be completed in 2018. Time commitments are flexible depending on the needs of the project and on your availability.
