Description

Make a difference in the lives of stroke survivors and gain valuable experience in the process. We run a range of different groups and volunteers can be allocated to one or more groups according to their area of interest, eg. high care groups, self-help group, group for younger stroke survivors (18-60yo), Talk Stroke group for people with communication difficulties, exercise classes, walking group, stroke forum, etc.
As a volunteer you will be asked to:
-help design activities and resources;
-run activity during group sessions;
-encourage members to take part in activities/exercise;
-engage members in group discussions;
-advise on healthy lifestyles;
-help group members with refreshments;
-help setting up venue;
-help the team with data entry and calls.
Volunteers need enthusiasm and commitment. All our groups are in Hackney area at different times. Training will be provided.

This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

  • Planning/Organising

Training will be provided by the organisation for this position:

- understanding stroke and how to support stroke survivors
- group facilitation
- blood pressure measurement
- manual handling (not compulsory)

We are unable to reimburse travel expenses
