Description

Could you make a difference to your community by befriending?

The Trinity Volunteer Befriending Service provides vital support to patients with progressive, life-limiting illnesses who are living in Trinity Hospice’s central and south west London community. The role provides valuable and much needed support for patients and an opportunity for carers and families to take a break from caring responsibilities. Becoming a befriender will develop your interpersonal skills and is great CV development for anybody entering a caring profession.

This role is flexible and the support you offer will vary according to the needs of the patient and their family and carers. Typical tasks undertaken include:

Emotional support such as chatting with a patient, listening or reading to them

Practical support such as accompanying them to an appointment, social group or to the shops

Providing a break for families and carers

This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

  • Interpersonal/Confidence
  • Planning/Organising

Training will be provided by the organisation for this position:

All volunteers must attend a full day befriending induction and complete four hours online e-learning. The befriending induction covers communication skills, dealing with grief and loss, wheelchair skills, mobility, Dementia awareness and all the necessary information a volunteer needs prior to matching to a patient.

Once the above training has been completed volunteers can be matched to a patient for befriending.
