Hours per week 3 hours
Location The volunteering will take place within families homes in various London boroughs,we would try to place you in the Borough where you live. The head office where training takes place is at 858 Finchley Road, Temple Fortune, Barnet London NW11 6AB.
Description

Enthusiastic, patient and hardworking volunteers needed to work with the Reach Out Coordinators in supporting families that have an autistic child or adult. You will work closely with the family following their lead and using any resources given to develop a working relationship with the family and child.

The task is challenging but rewarding and gives a welcome break to families who genuinely need it! If you believe that you could be that person, please get in contact, you do not need to have experience as full training will be given, along with ongoing support but you do need to be willing to get involved be creative and be supportive.

This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

  • Interpersonal/Confidence
  • Problem solving/Creativity
  • Planning/Organising

Training will be provided by the organisation for this position:

Training is bi monthly and takes place on Monday and Thursday evening over a two week basis. We cover:
An Introduction to Autism
Safeguarding/Working with Families
Play and Communication
SPELL/Risk Assessment
These are from 6-9pm and all four evenings have to be attended.

We are unable to reimburse travel expenses

About you

The organisation has indicated the following requirements from volunteers who want to take this opportunity.

Essential: Volunteers should be willing to travel to families' homes, be objective and have the ability to form positive relationships.

Desirable: A knowledge of autism.
