Volunteers will befriend an elderly Holocaust survivor or refugee suffering from memory loss.

Hours per week 1 hour
Location The Volunteering will take place at the client’s house. Our members live in and around London and we will look for someone living close to the volunteer. AJR is refunding any expenses made for the journey.
Description

Are you friendly and calm? Do you have patience and empathy? We are looking for volunteer befrienders to visit elderly holocaust survivors/refugees suffering with memory loss in order to stimulate and enhance their lives.

This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

  • Interpersonal/Confidence
  • Teamwork
  • Problem solving/Creativity

Training will be provided by the organisation for this position:

Following a general interview and DBS check, you will meet the Memory Loss Coordinator who will induct you into the programme. There will be on-going support and further training sessions on different issues, e.g. Dementia and Jewish Culture Awareness.

Essential: Very good social and listening skills are required.

Desirable: Knowledge about the Jewish culture. Awareness of issues around dementia.
