Description

The AJR is a charity that supports Holocaust survivors and refugees.
We have more than 600 members who are over the age of 90 (and thousands creeping towards that age). They may have been very active in their younger days, but many find that old age and ill health means that they are less able to get out and often feel isolated and lonely.

We are looking for volunteers who will keep in telephone contact with our members on a regular basis – time agreed between yourself and each AJR member. You will be allocated specific member(s) to call, so over time you should be able to build a rapport.

This volunteering role can be done from the AJR office, or from your home. Whatever is most suitable for you.

We are looking for volunteers who:
• are warm, understanding, sensitive and willing to listen;
• have an ability to communicate, sharing and enjoying conversation
• have a flexible and understanding approach to working with older people whose needs may change over time

A full role description is available on application.
We have an induction programme and on-going support and training for all our volunteers.

We look forward to you joining our Telephone Befriending Team
