Description

A unique opportunity for 3rd Year Undergraduates and Postgraduate Students interested in mental health.

The work entails 1-to-1 work as well as work at our drop-in sessions in one of our 3 day centres. We would also be interested to hear from volunteers who may have experienced mental health issues.

You will be offering practical and emotional support to vulnerable adults who may be struggling with isolation, medication, debt, benefits, housing, alcohol/drug misuse and many other issues.

We are looking for people who wish to develop their listening skills, are self motivated as well as good team members.

We are looking for people who are willing to work a minimum of one day a week and can commit to a minimum of 12 months.

This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

  • Interpersonal/Confidence
  • Teamwork
  • Problem solving/Creativity

Training will be provided by the organisation for this position:

- 2 day free accredited Mental Health First Aid training
- 1 day training on boundaries, risk assessment, personal safety, health and safety.
- 1 day induction into a mental health setting
- Fortnightly supervision sessions, and support with professional development

About you

The organisation has indicated the following requirements from volunteers who want to take this opportunity.

Essential: PG or 3rd Year UG, 1yr commitment and minimum of three hours per week. Capacity to be patient and an understanding of difference.

Desirable: Basic knowledge of mental health issues, pleasant manner, patience, problem-solving ability, dependability, and an empathetic attitude.
