Description

Summer 2017 Opportunity for 3rd Year Undergraduates and Postgraduate Students Only

The work entails 1-to-1 work as well as work at our drop-in sessions in one of our 3 day centres. We would also be interested to hear from volunteers who have experience in running groups or activities

You will be offering practical and emotional support to vulnerable adults who may be struggling with isolation, medication, debt, benefits, housing, alcohol/drug misuse and many other issues.

We are looking for people who wish to develop their listening skills, are self motivated as well as good team members.

We are looking for people who are willing to work a minimum of one day a week and can commit to a minimum of 6 months.

This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

  • Interpersonal/Confidence
  • Teamwork
  • Problem solving/Creativity

Training will be provided by the organisation for this position:

2 day Mental Heath First Aid training
1 day training on boundaries, risk assessment, personal safety, health and safety.
1 day induction into a mental health setting
fortnightly supervision
training from other organisations such as IAPT, SHINE (Seasonal Health Intervention Network)

About you

The organisation has indicated the following requirements from volunteers who want to take this opportunity.

Essential: PG or 3rd Year UG, 1yr committment and minimum of two hours per week and capacity to be patient and an understanding of difference

Desirable: experience of mental health problems and an empathic attitude
