Description

EXCITING NEW VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY WITH THE PASSAGE!

COULD YOU SUPPORT SOMEONE TO PUT DOWN ROOTS?

The Scheme:-
A brand new initiative from The Passage called Home for Good has been developed to provide ongoing support to formerly homeless people who have been resettled into their own accommodation.

The purpose of the service is both to help people to sustain their tenancies and to help them settle into and thrive in what will often be a new community. The idea for this came from our clients, who often found that after moving into their own accommodation they faced a new set of challenges, most notably isolation.

Through providing ongoing and holistic support, we hope to reduce the number of people returning to the street after moving into accommodation. This is where our volunteers come in.

The Role:-
Home for Good Community Volunteers will partner up with formerly homeless people who have been resettled across Greater London (ideally from their own neighbourhood, so they can share their knowledge and experience of the local area).

Volunteers will meet up with the person they are partnered with on a regular basis.

All volunteers will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support from The Passage.

Ways a volunteer might help somebody include:
• Going for coffee and a chat
• Helping them identify local specialist support services and social activities
• Encouraging and supporting them to apply for jobs

If this role sounds like a good fit then we’d love to hear from you.
You could make a real difference.

This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

  • Interpersonal/Confidence
  • Problem solving/Creativity
  • Planning/Organising

Training will be provided by the organisation for this position:

We offer a set of three training sessions for new/prospective volunteers.

These are relaxed and interactive, with light refreshments provided.

The first covers a background to homelessness services & issues, in the second we look at the role of the volunteer and in the last one we explore communication skills and think about how we might respond in different situations.

We provide ongoing support and monthly one to one supervision for all of our volunteers.

About you

The organisation has indicated the following requirements from volunteers who want to take this opportunity.

Essential: - Reliable and punctual - Able to work within professional boundaries - Empathy and understanding for our client group -
