Who We Are and What We Do
It is the wish of City Volunteering to maximize the potential of volunteering for all members of City University who wish to participate. The idea is to support students in their decision processes. We don’t make decisions for them. We are very keen to build links with local community groups in many ways. We would love for our students to get as involved as they can, bringing enthusiasm, energy, innovation and effort. In turn we are keen to support local organisations facilitate our students.
We give support and advice on
- How to find volunteer opportunities in with partner organisations
- How best to choose an opportunity to match your interests, aims and skills
- How to make best use of volunteering in your personal and professional development
- Starting a project of your own and engaging fellow students or staff
- Developing your sports club or society through volunteering
as well as being open to any idea or issue you may have about volunteering. We are looking to build volunteering into the core of the student experience her at City University and are committed to providing the best quality service that our resources allow. We can give advice on
- how to use volunteers in your organisation,
- how to get students involved,
- the best way to retain a student’s interest,
- top tips for student volunteering,
- ideas of best practice;
as well as providing training for our students and policies for organisations to use.
For example, you want student volunteers to help your organisation but you are a small outfit, have no funding and are unsure about health and safety issues. We can provide you with copies of our policies, advise on adapting these to your organisation and provide training for potential volunteers to ensure the safety of all involved.
City Volunteering prides itself on it’s passion for volunteering. To this end we try not to restrict ourselves with any preconceptions about the field we work in. We aim to inspire volunteers and organisations alike to think about volunteering in as many different was as possible and to constantly challenge what we think we know.
Our inspiration section is about just that and City Volunteering recruits students from City University’s highly regarded Journalism department and beyond to collect inspirational stories and write articles discussing all the current volunteering topics.
Hopefully we can help people take the next step in volunteering, or encourage organisations to expand their services through the correct use of our students seemingly endless supply of energy, enthusiasm and skills. If you have anything inspirational to share please let us know!
